Founder ・ Motion Strong Studio

The gym is small. The people behind it are not.

Motion Strong Studio is a neighbourhood gym in Gelang Patah. It is also run by someone whose day job is building professional combat sports with two of the biggest names in boxing.

Gen Matsuda

Gen Matsuda (松田元) is a Japanese entrepreneur and investor active across Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. He is president and representative director of abc Inc., a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market (ticker 8783), and the founder of Motion Strong Studio in Gelang Patah.

He founded his first company, AsZ Inc., in 2006 while still a student at Waseda University, building a business that trained people from unconventional backgrounds and supported more than 1,200 companies. He went on to lead OKWAVE — Japan's first question-and-answer community — as president, and later served as chairman and chief executive of Beat Holdings, working across blockchain and Web3. He is also a published author. He spent over a decade in investment banking before running listed companies.

His work spans Tokyo, Singapore and Johor. Which is how a Tokyo-listed company president ends up building a striking gym in Gelang Patah.

Signed with a fist. Crawford pressed his inked fist onto the agreement rather than signing his name — beside him, Gen Matsuda. Their name plates read Terence Crawford and 松田 元.

So why a small gym in Gelang Patah?

It is a fair question, and the honest answer is not a business one.

The people who build professional fighting rarely get to stand in a room where a fifty-year-old is throwing their first jab, or where a seven-year-old learns to hold a stance. That room is where the sport actually lives. Everything above it — the belts, the pay-per-views, the arenas — is built on people who once walked into a gym not knowing anything.

Motion Strong is not a marketing exercise for the bigger business. It runs on its own terms, with its own coaches, for people in Gelang Patah. But it does mean this: the person who owns your gym takes this sport seriously enough to build it at the professional level too.
